Alexander Doom breaks European Championships record

Belgium’s Alexander Doom set a new European Athletics Championships record in Rome on Monday, 10 June, clinching the gold in the men’s 400m final with an astonishing time of 44.15.

After a narrow fourth-place finish in the mixed 4x400m final on the opening day of the Championships, this marks Doom’s first European Championships title.

Great Britain’s Charles Dobson kept the heat on Doom as they sped around the track, but the Belgian surged ahead on the second bend to secure his spot among the top 10 fastest Europeans in 400m history. The Netherlands’ Liemarvin Bonevacia claimed the bronze, finishing close behind Doom at 44.88.
