Azhar Ali Urges ICC to Relocate Florida Matches Amid Severe Weather Warnings

Azhar Ali urges ICC

Former Pakistan captain Azhar Ali has called on the International Cricket Council (ICC) to relocate matches from Florida due to severe flood warnings in the state. Ali emphasized the urgency of the situation, urging the ICC to act swiftly.

Pakistan is set to play their final group match against Ireland on Sunday, June 16, at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium in Lauderhill. The last three Group A matches will take place in Florida, where teams are vying for spots in the Super Eight.

India has already secured a spot in the next stage from Group A, but Pakistan and the USA are still competing for a place. The USA will face Ireland on Friday, June 14, but heavy thunderstorms are predicted throughout the week. If the match is washed out, Pakistan will be eliminated, as the USA and Ireland will share points, allowing the USA to advance.

Speaking to a local news channel, Azhar Ali urged the ICC to consider relocating the matches. “Given the circumstances in Florida, it seems unlikely that the matches will proceed. The ICC must take action to avoid disruption,” he stated.

“Even if two matches are held at a single venue, I believe the teams would support this move and have likely already contacted the ICC,” he added.

Ali also mentioned the criticism the ICC is facing regarding the poor pitch conditions at New York’s Nassau County International Cricket Stadium. He stressed the need for prompt action to avoid further scrutiny.

“The ICC needs to act quickly. Logistically, it shouldn’t be challenging. If no matches occur in Florida, there will be significant criticism. Questions are already being raised about the pitch standards in New York,” he said.

The match between the USA and Ireland, scheduled for 10:30 am local time on June 14, is expected to be heavily impacted by rain.
