England vs South Africa T20 World Cup

GROS ISLET, St. Lucia (AP) — England, the defending champion, won the toss and chose to field against unbeaten South Africa in the Super Eight stage of the Twenty20 Cricket World Cup on Friday.

South Africa, victorious in all four of its group games, and England, with a winning start in Super Eight, Group 2, against the United States and the West Indies respectively, are set for an exciting clash.

England retained the same lineup that dominated the West Indies by eight wickets, chasing a target of 181 with 15 balls remaining.

“We fancy another chase,” said England captain Jos Buttler at the toss. “There might be some moisture in the pitch and I expect the ball to swing.”

England has been gaining momentum after a rocky start to their title defense, with their opening match against Scotland being washed out and subsequent wins over Oman and Namibia boosting their net run-rate.

South Africa made a change, bringing in fast bowler Ottneil Baartman for wrist-spinner Tabraiz Shamsi, who was costly against the United States.

South Africa captain Aiden Markram said he would have preferred to bowl first but aims to “put a good score on the board and squeeze them after that.”
