Tyson Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, has criticized the decision to turn the upcoming Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson bout into a professional match as “ridiculous.” Warren expressed admiration for Jake Paul’s promotional skills but strongly opposed 57-year-old Tyson entering the professional boxing ring at his age.
The fight, scheduled for July 20 in Texas, will not be an exhibition but will carry professional status. This marks Tyson’s return to professional boxing for the first time since 2005. The bout is set for a maximum of eight two-minute rounds, with 14oz gloves and no head guards.
Warren emphasized that Tyson, approaching his 58th birthday, should not be fighting professionally. Despite the commercial appeal of the event, Warren described Texas licensing a 58-year-old to fight professionally as “ridiculous.”
