Usman Khawaja Highlights Lack of Stability Affecting Pakistan Cricket

Lack of stability affecting Pakistan cricket

Australian batter Usman Khawaja believes the constant changes within the Pakistan cricket team have adversely affected players’ performance. Speaking at an event in Melbourne on Monday, Khawaja noted that while Pakistan has immense talent, the lack of stability is a significant hindrance.

“When I look from the outside, everything is changing in the Pakistan cricket team,” Khawaja said, referring to frequent changes in selection committee members, staff, and players. He emphasized that stability is crucial for a team’s performance.

Pakistan’s early elimination from the group stage of the T20 World Cup 2024 has sparked widespread criticism, particularly aimed at senior players, including captain Babar Azam. When asked about Babar Azam’s captaincy, Khawaja stated, “It’s Babar Azam’s decision to captain; if he can, he should.”

In the T20 World Cup, Pakistan was narrowly defeated by debutants the US in a Super Over tie and lost by six runs to India. They secured a seven-wicket victory against Canada on June 11. Their hopes to advance depended on Ireland beating the US, but rain washed out the match, ending Pakistan’s chances.

Pakistan’s final match against Ireland was merely a formality before the squad returned home.
