Max Verstappen Comments on Avoidable Feud Between Father and Christian Horner

Max Verstappen feud

Max Verstappen has weighed in on the ongoing public feud between his father Jos and Red Bull team principal Christian Horner, describing it as “not nice” and “avoidable.”

The conflict resurfaced at the Austrian Grand Prix when Jos Verstappen claimed Horner blocked him from participating in the Legends Parade. Jos expressed his disappointment in De Telegraaf, to which Horner responded, denying any veto.

After another stellar performance extending his championship lead by winning Saturday’s Sprint, Max faced questions about the strained relationship.

“Of course, it’s not nice for anyone involved,” Max said. “My dad was asked to drive and then told he wasn’t wanted. He doesn’t care about driving the car, but he was asked for the Dutch fans at our home track. This could have been avoided.”

Jos Verstappen was set to drive Sebastian Vettel’s 2012 Red Bull in a pre-race parade but withdrew, citing Horner’s alleged interference.

“In recent days, I’ve heard from several sources that Christian Horner did everything to prevent me from driving or being filmed,” Jos said. “I find it very disappointing.”

Horner responded, “The Legends Parade is organized by the circuit. There was no veto from my side.”

Tensions have been high since Jos suggested earlier this season that Red Bull might be torn apart if Horner remained, following a dismissed grievance against Horner by a female colleague.

Horner commented, “You can’t control everything in life. My focus is on performance with drivers and the team.”

Sky Sports F1’s Martin Brundle called the feud “petulant and unnecessary,” adding that it is unfair for Max to be caught in the middle during a crucial race weekend.

Naomi Schiff added, “Max is stuck between his father and his team principal. They need to resolve this to consider the position they’re putting Max in.”
