IOC President Thomas Bach made the announcement, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to promoting peace and inclusivity through sports.

Despite the ongoing conflict in Gaza, the IOC has been working to ensure Palestinian athletes can continue training and competing. Bach dismissed comparisons with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, stating that the situations are distinct and require different approaches.
