Liverpool’s Premier League title aspirations suffered another setback as Liverpool were held to a 2-2 draw with West Ham United on Saturday. The result leaves Jurgen Klopp’s men third in the table, two points behind leaders Arsenal and one adrift of Manchester City, with both teams having games in hand. This draw follows a disheartening 2-0 defeat to rivals Everton in the Merseyside derby, further dampening Liverpool’s spirits in Klopp’s final season at the helm.
The opening half was a lackluster affair, with Liverpool denied a penalty for offside and Luis Díaz striking the post for the visitors. West Ham, however, took the lead just before halftime through Jarrod Bowen, his 20th goal of the season in his 200th appearance for the Hammers.
West Ham refused to surrender, and they drew level once more in the 77th minute thanks to a powerful header from Michail Antonio following a Bowen cross. Harvey Elliott nearly snatched a dramatic winner for Liverpool late on, but his effort rattled the bar.

The result of having a draw with West Ham leaves Liverpool in a precarious position. With both Arsenal and Manchester City holding a significant advantage in terms of games played, the Reds’ title hopes appear increasingly slim. “It is going to be difficult, not impossible, but very, very difficult,” admitted Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo in a post-match interview.
West Ham, meanwhile, keep their faint hopes of European qualification alive with this point. They remain in eighth place, but they’ll need a strong finish to the season to secure a Europa League or Europa Conference League spot.
