Commanders to hire Larry Izzo as special teams coordinator


The Commanders have secured a significant addition to their coaching staff, as reported by Ben Standig of Washington is bringing on Larry Izzo to serve as its special teams coordinator. Izzo comes with a wealth of experience, having fulfilled the same role for the Seattle Seahawks over the past three seasons, initially stepping in on an interim basis in 2020. Prior to his tenure with the Seahawks, he held the position of special teams coordinator for the Houston Texans from 2016 to 2017, following a stint as the assistant special teams coordinator for the New York Giants from 2011 to 2015.

Izzo’s professional journey extends beyond coaching, having entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 1996. He enjoyed a distinguished playing career spanning 200 games with the Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, and New York Jets. Throughout his time as a player, he earned recognition with three Pro Bowl selections and contributed to three Super Bowl victories with the Patriots, establishing a strong foundation for his transition into coaching.
