The Falcons are considering a coach from a division rival as a potential candidate for their next head coach. According to Joe Person of TheAthletic.com, Atlanta has formally requested to interview Ejiro Evero, the current defensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers.
Evero, aged 43, has served as a defensive coordinator for the past two years. In 2022, he was part of Nathaniel Hackett’s staff with the Broncos, where he led a defense that ranked seventh in yards allowed despite having an offense that finished 32nd in scoring. A similar scenario unfolded in 2023, with Evero coordinating a defense that ranked fourth in yards allowed while the Panthers’ offense struggled, finishing 31st in scoring and 32nd in total yards.
Before his stint with the Broncos, Evero spent the years 2017-2021 with the Rams, initially as a safeties coach before earning promotions to secondary coach and defensive passing game coordinator in his final season with the team.

It’s worth noting that the Jaguars have also shown interest in interviewing Evero for their vacant defensive coordinator position, but the Panthers prevented the interview from taking place.
