Flyers sign goalie Ivan Fedotov

Flyers sign Ivan Fedotov after goalie’s arrest and forced Russian military service

Ivan Fedotov has officially joined the Flyers, marking a fresh start after a tumultuous journey that saw him arrested and compelled into military service.

“It’s been tough, but I’m excited to be here,” Fedotov said. “I want to help the team make the playoffs and be one of the best.”

Fedotov, 27, was originally set to join the Flyers but was taken to a remote military base for a year of service. He played for CSKA Moscow in defiance of the IIHF, which ruled his Flyers contract valid.

With impressive stats in the KHL, including a 21-22-1 record with a 2.37 goals-against average and .914 save percentage in 2023-24, Fedotov adds depth to the Flyers’ goaltending lineup.

Expected to back up Samuel Ersson, Fedotov brings experience and skill to the team. Talks for a contract extension are already underway.

The Flyers hope Fedotov’s arrival will strengthen their goaltending and playoff aspirations.
