Francis Ngannou attributed his recent defeat to former unified world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (28-3, 25KOs) to feeling fatigued on the fight day. In a video shared on his Instagram, the Cameroonian MMA star acknowledged that he didn’t feel at his best leading up to the bout but credited Joshua for his victory in the Saudi Arabian capital.
“I wasn’t in top form that day,” Ngannou reflected. “Although I don’t think the outcome would have changed, it just wasn’t my day. I felt off throughout the day, even struggling to warm up in the locker room. I was sweating but felt like I was falling asleep.”

Ngannou praised Joshua’s team for their preparation and acknowledged his own team’s efforts. Looking ahead, Ngannou plans to return to MMA with PFL expecting him to feature under their banner by the end of 2024. He hasn’t ruled out a return to boxing once he has recuperated and taken time off from training.
Despite high expectations following his performance against Tyson Fury last October, where Ngannou dropped the WBC heavyweight champion before narrowly losing on the scorecards, Joshua’s dominance in the recent fight was evident. He knocked Ngannou down three times, showcasing his superiority over the former MMA champion.
