Jim Furyk names Presidents Cup assistants

U.S. captain Jim Furyk announced on Tuesday that Stewart Cink, Justin Leonard, and Kevin Kisner will serve as his assistants for the 2024 Presidents Cup, set to take place in Montreal this September.

“All three have a remarkable history with this event, and more importantly, they will be trusted voices in the team room and on the course,” Furyk stated in a news release. “I look forward to working closely with them as we build a 12-man U.S. Team ready to compete at Royal Montreal Golf Club this fall.”

Scheduled for September 24-29, the biennial competition between the U.S. and the International Team (excluding Europe) has seen the U.S. win 12 of the 14 previous editions, with a loss in 1998 and a draw in 2003. The U.S. last won in Montreal in 2007.

Cink, 51, who competed in four Presidents Cups, is making his debut as a captain’s assistant. “Jim is a longtime friend, and it’s an honor to be named as a captain’s assistant for the 2024 Presidents Cup,” Cink said. “This event has been significant to my career, and it’s a thrill to return to Montreal, where I have great memories from 2007.”

Leonard, 51, also a first-time assistant, competed in five Presidents Cups. “It has been amazing to watch this U.S. Team grow and develop over the years,” Leonard commented. “Jim is the perfect leader for this talented group heading to Montreal. I’m honored to join the team and excited for a great week of golf in September.”

Kisner, 40, who played for the U.S. Team in 2017 and 2022, is also making his debut as an assistant. “Match play is my favorite format, and I’m eager to bring my expertise to the team room,” Kisner said. “Jim is a great leader, and I was thrilled when he asked me to serve as a captain’s assistant this fall.”

The 12 players for the U.S. team will be announced later this year, with six automatic qualifiers based on FedEx Cup points and six chosen by Furyk and his staff.
