Phoenix Suns reportedly finalize deal with Mike Budenholzer to become their next head coach, marking the franchise’s third coaching change in as many seasons.
According to various sources, including ESPN and The Athletic, the Suns have secured Mike Budenholzer as their new head coach. The Arizona native and two-time NBA Coach of the Year will step in following the departure of Frank Vogel, who was let go after just one season at the helm. Budenholzer’s contract reportedly spans five years.
Hailing from Holbrook, Arizona, Budenholzer previously led the Milwaukee Bucks to victory in the 2021 NBA Finals, defeating the Suns, who have yet to claim a championship in their 56-year history despite reaching the Finals three times.

Tasked with maximizing the potential of Phoenix’s All-Star trio comprising Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal, Budenholzer inherits a team that struggled to find its groove under Vogel, culminating in a disappointing first-round playoff exit after a 49-33 regular-season record.
Having previously coached the Bucks and the Atlanta Hawks, Budenholzer brings a wealth of experience to the Suns, boasting a 484-317 record over his ten seasons in the NBA.
