Mohammad Amir Aims to Fulfill “Unfinished Work” at T20 World Cup 2024

Mohammad Amir, T20 World Cup 2024

Mohammad Amir has set his sights on redemption at the forthcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, slated to unfold in June across the West Indies and the United States of America (USA).

Speaking from Lahore, the left-arm pace sensation, a pivotal figure in Pakistan’s triumphant 2009 campaign in England, expressed his eagerness to clinch the trophy once more for his nation.

“I have unfinished business,” Amir conveyed to AFP. “My immediate aim is to seize the World Cup title. The Pakistan Cricket Board and team management have bestowed their faith in me, and I’m committed to honoring that trust.”

Amir, who made a spectacular return to international cricket during Pakistan’s recent five-match T20I series against New Zealand, emphasized his renewed vigor in spearheading the national attack.

“Returning to the fold after four years, the sense of pride in representing Pakistan is immeasurable,” he remarked. “Physically, I feel stronger than ever before. Fitness is paramount, and I’m geared up to deliver my best performance yet.”

While Pakistan’s roster for the T20 World Cup 2024 is yet to be unveiled, Amir appears to be a probable inclusion. He is set to join the national squad for a series of three T20Is in Dublin against Ireland on May 10, 12, and 14.

Following their engagements in Ireland, Pakistan will journey to England for a four-match T20I series before converging in the USA for the prestigious tournament.

Pakistan’s campaign in the T20 World Cup 2024 will commence against co-hosts USA on June 6, followed by a highly anticipated clash against arch-rivals India on June 9. Subsequent encounters against Canada and Ireland on June 11 and 16, respectively, await the former champions.

The squad for the Ireland and England T20Is is composed of seasoned stalwarts including Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Mohammad Rizwan, alongside rising talents like Azam Khan and Haris Rauf, ensuring a formidable lineup under captaincy of Babar Azam.
