Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez believes that Pakistan will face significant challenges in the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 due to their current form and lack of team cohesion. Speaking on ARY News’ Sports Room, Hafeez expressed his concerns about the Green Shirts’ readiness for the tournament.
“Although my heart supports Pakistan, the reality is that they will struggle,” Hafeez remarked. “Their formation and mindset are not optimal, and their roles are not clearly defined.”

Despite his reservations, Hafeez named Pakistan among his semi-finalists for the tournament, alongside India, West Indies, and England. He acknowledged Pakistan’s below-par performances, referencing their 2-2 home series draw against an inexperienced New Zealand side and a 2-1 away series win against Ireland, which followed a surprising loss in the opener.
“The results against New Zealand and Ireland were disappointing given Pakistan’s full-strength squad,” Hafeez noted. “While the team showed resilience in Ireland, their overall mindset and dominance need improvement.”
