In a recent development, Pakistani left-arm fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has chosen to withdraw from the upcoming edition of The Hundred, as reported by The Telegraph.
Having been retained by Welsh Fire in the £100,000 category due to his standout performances in 2023, where he showcased his skills in six matches, Afridi’s decision comes as a surprise. Instead, he is reportedly engaged in discussions with the Global T20 Canada league for a potential signing.

The Global T20 Canada league offers a shorter competition duration, which may afford Afridi more time to spend with his family should he opt to join. While his withdrawal from The Hundred is confirmed, it remains uncertain whether he has formally committed to the Global T20 Canada league.
As a consequence of Afridi’s decision, Welsh Fire is now in the process of identifying a replacement pace bowler. The Hundred is set to kick off from July 23 and conclude on August 18 this year.
