Shahid Afridi Compares India-Pakistan Cricket Rivalry to NFL’s Super Bowl

Shahid Afridi compares India-Pakistan cricket rivalry to Super Bowl

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has likened the National Football League (NFL) final, the Super Bowl, to the enduring rivalry between Pakistan and India in cricket.

In a recent column for the International Cricket Council (ICC), Afridi made this comparison to help Americans grasp the intensity of the clash.

“For those Americans new to the tournament, they should understand that Pakistan’s game against India is akin to our Super Bowl,” Afridi stated.

“People will love the support in the States. There is a vibrant expat community there that is passionate about cricket,” he added.

“And Americans have a deep love for their sports, whether it’s football, basketball, or baseball. I genuinely believe cricket will become mainstream in the next few years, which is exciting for emerging cricketers.”

Reflecting on his own playing days, Afridi emphasized the significance of the India-Pakistan cricket rivalry.

“I absolutely loved playing against India, and I truly believe it is the biggest rivalry in sports. When I played in those matches, I received a lot of love and respect from Indian fans, and it means so much to both sides,” he concluded.

It’s notable that the Men in Green will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against co-hosts USA on Thursday, June 6, in Dallas.
