Horschel Poised for Redemption at Memorial Tournament

Billy Horschel redemption at Memorial

DUBLIN, Ohio – As Billy Horschel strolled around Muirfield Village Golf Club on Tuesday, he was determined to leave past disappointments behind. Despite winning the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday in 2022, Horschel’s mind lingered on his dismal performance in the 2023 edition, where he shot a crushing 12-over 84 in the first round.

That round marked a low point in Horschel’s career, as he struggled to find consistency amid swing changes. His emotional post-round interview, where he admitted his confidence was at an all-time low, resonated deeply with fans. Reflecting on that moment a year later, Horschel realizes it was a pivotal turning point.

Returning to Muirfield Village, Horschel is ready to shed the scar tissue of last year. He has recently found success, including a victory at the Corales Puntacana Championship. “I believe this is the best my swing’s ever been in my career,” he stated confidently.

Horschel’s journey to redemption began with an emotional release at last year’s Memorial. He later discovered through 3D swing analysis that the lie angle of his irons was causing errant shots. Adjusting his equipment led to better performances, including making the cut at the U.S. Open and strong finishes in subsequent tournaments.

Despite progress, Horschel’s mental game still needed work. After missing the cut at THE PLAYERS Championship, he resolved to “play fearlessly, swing fearlessly.” This new mindset yielded top-20 finishes and a victory at Corales, reigniting his confidence.

Now 37, Horschel believes his best golf is ahead. He returns to Muirfield Village aiming to conquer his final hurdle, playing with the same fearless approach. Horschel is determined to perform well at one of the toughest courses on TOUR, confident in his ability to adjust and succeed.

“I need to get redemption,” Horschel declared, “It’s nice that I feel better with my game.”
