Bulgarian tennis star Grigor Dimitrov advanced to the quarterfinals of the French Open at Roland Garros for the first time by defeating Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz on Sunday.
Dimitrov secured his spot by winning 7-6(5), 6-4, 7-6(3) against the world No. 8 in the men’s singles fourth round.
The 33-year-old will next face Italy’s world No. 2, Jannik Sinner.
In other matches, men’s world No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz triumphed over Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime and will now play Stefanos Tsitsipas, who ousted Italy’s Matteo Arnaldi.
Alcaraz won in straight sets, while Tsitsipas advanced with a 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-2, 6-2 victory over Arnaldi.

“I’m really looking forward to this match. I love this kind of challenge. I’ve seen a lot of Stefanos’ matches recently. I know he’s playing great tennis, has a lot of confidence,” said Alcaraz regarding his upcoming match.
In the women’s singles fourth round, top seeds progressed without surprises. World No. 1 Iga Swiatek defeated Russia’s Anastasia Potapova, world No. 6 Marketa Vondrousova beat Serbia’s Olga Danilovic, world No. 3 Coco Gauff eliminated Italy’s Elisabetta Cocciaretto, and world No. 9 Ons Jabeur triumphed over Denmark’s Clara Tauson, all in straight sets.
World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka and world No. 4 Elena Rybakina are still to play their fourth-round matches.
The men’s and women’s singles quarterfinal matches are scheduled for Tuesday.
