Argentine superstar Lionel Messi has named the greatest football team, and surprisingly, it’s not David Beckham’s Inter Miami, the Major League Soccer (MLS) club he currently plays for.
Messi, 36, has been making waves in the MLS, scoring 14 goals in 15 appearances for Inter Miami. Despite his success in the U.S., Messi pointed to other teams when discussing the best in football.
Gearing up for the upcoming Copa America, where he aims to add another trophy to his illustrious career, Messi revealed his thoughts on the greatest football teams. Speaking to Infobae, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner stated, “The best team is Real Madrid. If you go by results, Real Madrid is the best.”

Messi also praised Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, saying, “If you go by the level of play, I think Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are the best.” Messi played under Guardiola during his time at Barcelona from 2008 to 2012 and has high regard for his former manager.
He lauded Guardiola again after Manchester City clinched their historic Premier League and Champions League titles, saying to Titan Sports, “[Guardiola’s] the best coach in the world. He didn’t need this Champions League to prove it, but it’s an achievement he deserves.”
Real Madrid recently secured their 15th Champions League title, defeating Borussia Dortmund at Wembley, solidifying their place at the top of European football.
