BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic has been named to Serbia’s 16-man preliminary roster for the upcoming Paris Olympics, dispelling any doubts about his participation in the basketball tournament.
The three-time NBA MVP has previously skipped several major international tournaments due to the demanding NBA seasons.
However, after the defending champions were unexpectedly eliminated by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the playoffs, Jokic concluded his NBA season earlier than anticipated. He has since spent several weeks rafting with friends and family.
Serbia’s coach, Svetislav Pesic, also included Charlotte Hornets guard Vasilije Micic, Miami Heat forward Nikola Jovic, Atlanta Hawks sharpshooter Bogdan Bogdanovic, and Hornets forward Aleksej Pokusevski on the roster.
Serbia is set to face the United States in their Olympic opener on July 28.
