Pakistan players rise in ICC T20I rankings ahead of World Cup

DUBAI: Pakistan players have made notable advancements in the latest ICC T20I rankings, just in time for the upcoming Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

Currently engaged in a four-match T20I series against defending champions England, Pakistani players have leveraged their performances to climb the rankings ladder.

Fakhar Zaman’s explosive 45-run innings off 21 balls in the second T20I propelled him six places up to 51st in the ICC T20I batting rankings.

Shaheen Afridi, with figures of 3-36 in the same match, ascended three spots to share the 11th position with Australia’s Adam Zampa.

Haris Rauf, returning from a shoulder injury, moved up two places to 25th after claiming two wickets in the second T20I.

Imad Wasim’s all-round brilliance, taking two wickets and scoring 22 off 13 balls, saw him rise 14 places to 38th in bowling rankings and four places to joint-12th in the all-rounder rankings with Shadab Khan.

England’s captain Jos Buttler, awarded Man of the Match for his 84 off 51 balls against Pakistan, moved up to seventh in the batting rankings. Teammate Reece Topley also climbed to ninth in the bowling rankings with figures of 3-41.

In a separate series, West Indies’ 3-0 whitewash of South Africa boosted their players’ rankings. Stand-in captain Brandon King climbed five spots to eighth in the batting rankings, while Johnson Charles and Kyle Mayers moved to 20th and 31st respectively.

Gudakesh Motie, named Player of the Series for his eight wickets, made a significant leap to 27th in the bowling rankings, moving from outside the top 100.

These shifts highlight the intense competition and rising performances as teams prepare for the T20 World Cup 2024.
