Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi on Saturday praised Indian cricket star Virat Kohli for expressing his willingness to visit Pakistan. Speaking at a tape-ball event in Karachi, Afridi said he wasn’t surprised by Kohli’s gesture.
“I expected such a statement from Virat. I welcome Virat, whether he comes to the PSL or with the Indian team,” Afridi stated.
Kohli expressed his desire to visit Pakistan during a 2022 video call with Pakistani mountaineer Shehroze Kashif. “Give my regards to your family and all your friends. Hopefully, we will visit Pakistan soon; everyone’s started visiting now,” Kohli said to Kashif.
Afridi also voiced support for young batter Saim Ayub, praising his talent and hoping for strong performances. Ayub is in England with the Pakistan squad for a four-match T20I series starting May 22.
The national team arrived in England after a 2-1 series victory over Ireland. Post-England, they will head to the USA for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, beginning their campaign against the USA on June 4 and facing India on June 9.
