NBA Imposes Lifetime Ban on Toronto Raptors’ Jontay Porter for Betting Scandal

Toronto Raptors player Jontay Porter banned from NBA

ontay Porter, a player for the Toronto Raptors, has been permanently banned from the NBA due to an investigation uncovering his involvement in disclosing confidential information to sports bettors, the league announced.

The investigation revealed that Porter divulged sensitive details about his own health status to an individual known to be a bettor on NBA games before a March 20 matchup. Subsequently, an associate of Porter placed an $80,000 bet with an online sportsbook, aiming to win $1.1 million by betting on Porter’s underperformance in that particular game. Porter only played three minutes in the said game, citing illness.

Further findings indicated that between January and March of this year, Porter made at least 13 wagers on NBA games using a colleague’s online betting account while traveling with either the Raptors or Raptors 905. These bets, ranging from $15 to $22,000, totaled $54,094. Despite a total payout of $76,059, resulting in net winnings of $21,965, none of the bets were placed on games in which Porter participated.

The league clarified that three of Porter’s bets were multi-game parlay wagers involving Raptors games, all predicting the team’s loss, yet all three failed. The Toronto Raptors have not yet issued a statement regarding the ban.
